Turandot promotional material Bayerische Staatsoper

We were invited to collaborate in the design of the promotional materials for La Fura dels Baus and Zubin Mehta's version of Turandot. This successful creative relationship returns to one of the major European temples of opera the Bayerische Staatsoper in Múnich. 

In their account,  the story takes place in the Europe of the future. For thirty years China has ruled with an iron fist over Europe, to prevent a new financial crisis they bought all natural resources and their national debt. They are the new world power, Turandot, the ruthless princess, is the unavoidable guardian that keeps a whole generation of children confined as collateral.

In this project, we worked with wardrobe designer Chu Uroz and utilised elements of the sets designed by Roland Olbeter.

Our design features a picture of lead Swedish dramatic soprano Irene Theorin and pays homage to the 1926 original poster Illustration.

Giacomo Puccini died before finishing Turandot; the first performance of the unfinished oeuvre was held at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan one year after his death in 1926, conducted by Arturo Toscanini.
